Being Z
Framed Acrylic Posters (32×26 inches each)

This is the second part of my thesis—‘what we are doing with it’. As South Asians, we’ve always preserved our lives in frames. For past generations, those frames were physical and ornamental; for us, they’re digital—social media frames, now reimagined in acrylic. These pieces serve to communicate to older generations that we’re embracing tradition while questioning it, bridging the generational gap, even in the smallest ways, like the clothes we wear.

As a designer giving my VCD thesis, I didn’t want to limit myself to just moving images, installations, and cryptic visuals. I did want posters but my posters needed me in them. I’ve spent almost the entirety of my third and fourth year at Beaden and Cooper Road, working with acrylics, making friends there, and understanding the craft. So, these posters had to be 3D—fusing my love for photography with my found understanding of acrylics.

Huge thanks to my mentor, Ayesha Saeed, for understanding me, encouraging me to look into mediums and visualize each little detail, and for constant support/guidance over the last two years. Also, to my HOD, Sir Baber Baig, for making me see how space and type work together, and to my acrylic partner-in-crime, Mudassar.
